Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR) has a proven 16-year track record of preparing highly effective teachers through its nationally recognized Residency program. MTR has consistently earned “Exceeds Expectations” ratings from the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) for the quality of its teacher preparation.

Our Job-Embedded Licensure-Only (JELO) program, offered in partnership with Lipscomb University, provides the same high-quality coaching and support systems that define the MTR Residency—while being designed specifically for working educators. Rather than focusing on traditional seat-time requirements, the program emphasizes practical, classroom-embedded learning that aligns with the realities of full-time teaching and supports the development of deep instructional expertise.

We currently offer licensure pathways in:

• K–5 Elementary Education

• PK–12 English as a Second Language (ESL)
